You may already know that when you work with a Wellview Health Advisor, one of the first things we do is create a vision for your health and wellbeing. This is a great opportunity to think about what you want your life to be like, what types of goals you would like to achieve, and why it’s important to you. When you’ve created a vision statement with your advisor, it should be something that makes you smile and feel excited when you read it, because it is a destination that you’re looking forward to reaching.
But sometimes, figuring out what to do next can be a bit tricky. Your advisor will help you set three-month goals, and then break those goals into smaller action steps to be taken over the course of a few weeks. Working together, you’ll put those action steps into motion and make tweaks and adjustments along the way as your plan faces real life.
The best vision statements, though, are the ones you don’t have to wait to participate in. When you can start living in your vision statement right away, the fun of achieving goals really begins. Here are three ways you can go beyond your vision statement and dive right into your dreams.
Set the Scene
Seeing is believing, so surround yourself with evidence of your abilities and anticipation for future achievements. Whether it’s a vision board on the wall, a screensaver on your computer, or a bowl of fruit on your desk instead of candy, those visual cues will remind you that your vision can be enjoyed every day. You do not have to fake it until you make it. By taking even the first step towards the outcome, you are the real deal. Buy a new pair of sneakers, a fun water bottle, and a sticker for your car. Everyone is welcome to live a healthy lifestyle!
Everything is more fun with friends, and achieving health goals is easier that way, too. Online communities, walking groups at work, friendly competitions, and even reading magazines related to your goals can help you feel connected to your outcome on a daily basis. You never know, you might even be the person who encourages someone else to take action on their goals.
Living a fit and healthy life is a journey, and we are all traveling. Success comes in many forms, and the more success you look for, the easier it is to find! Set daily benchmarks that you can easily achieve, like drinking more water or walking more steps. Give yourself a high five for every new notch on your belt, or drop in your A1C. Yes, these small victories are cause for celebration, and you don’t have to wait to feel great. When you enjoy the rewards of your effort, your vision becomes something you experience every day.
