Hit The Barre

As a Registered Dietitian and Health Advisor, I often get asked by people wanting to start exercising “what type of exercise is the best to do?” My answer is often “whatever exercise you will actually do, and consistently.”

When it comes to health promotion and disease prevention, we know being active is of paramount importance. So many working adults know the struggle of finding a workout that is accessible as they juggle young children and/or busy lives outside of work, which is why I wanted to spotlight the Barre3 workout, a franchise with 144 studios nationwide, with on-site childcare as well as video streaming.

Their classes are described as full-body workouts combining strength, conditioning, cardio and mindfulness that will leave you feeling balanced in body and empowered from within, which I can attest to being true. The “3” highlights three signatures of the workout including big movements, small movements and isometric holds.

I was quite sore after my first class, despite an already active fitness routine. The biggest benefit for me is the on-site childcare, reducing the juggle necessary to carve out some solo time for movement. They also offer hundreds of online videos, with a 15-day free trial, and just $29 a month after that, so you can workout in the comfort of your home, which is an attractive trait of a workout to so many participants I work with.

While this is certainly not the only type of exercise that may work for you, it has plenty of appealing unique angles that are worth considering or sharing with someone if you think the childcare or video streaming may make all the difference in this season of life. And there are plenty of others that show up to the studio for classes, sans children, just because they enjoy the benefits of these challenging, yet uplifting, hour-long classes.

Haven’t met your exercise match yet? I challenge you to keep exploring and take a step outside of your comfort zone to try something new, like Barre3; our Health Advisors are always available to help you navigate the exciting journey of regular movement.
