Rachel, Payroll Administrator in the state of Florida has experienced huge success along her journey so far. Here is her story…
In 2020, my father passed away due to health complications from Diabetes. When I started a new job in 2021, Wellview’s services were offered and I decided to make an appointment with a Health Advisor, as well as my primary care physician. I was surprised to learn that, like my father and many others in my family, I also had Type 2 Diabetes. After seeing how much my father suffered, I decided to really change my life.
I began to learn about Diabetes, and that my A1C put me at risk and was significantly higher than it should be. With help from Wellview, I was able to lose almost 40 pounds and improve my A1C. My last A1C results were 3 points less, and I intend to keep it that way!
There was definitely a learning curve, however. Due to a birth defect, I had had three hip and joint surgeries by the time I was 7 years old, and as a result, was excused from P.E. class and group sports. Because of this, I never learned how to enjoy physical exertion of any kind. The entire process of working out was completely new to me, and a big challenge. I had to get used to the feeling of my heart racing when I would exercise. Now, I am searching for new and more challenging workouts, lifting weights, and my husband has even joined in!
It’s true that getting started can be the hardest part, but it doesn't have to be overwhelming.
If you can, set aside 20-30 minutes three to four times a week to start, and get moving. Exercise is no longer limited to the stereotypical weight lifting in a gym! You can find ways to move and be active that fit your lifestyle and have fun doing it.
Wellview has provided valuable guidance with nutrition and exercise, but the emphasis on active lifestyle choices is what has really stuck with me the most. Retraining my brain to park at the back of the parking lot, look for opportunities to exercise, and to enjoy physical activities has been life changing. I’ll never look back, and I know that I have the support I need to keep getting stronger.
