When is the last time you had fun?

Like real, genuine, sing in the shower, dance in the rain, play like a kid, do something spontaneous...kind of fun.Fun is subjective. What is fun for me may not be fun for you, and vice versa. Furthermore, everyone is not truly ready to drop everything to have fun. But that is the fun in fun! You can learn to meet yourself where you are in order to re-learn the importance of fun and how to make it happen in your life. Here are a few powerful journaling tools to begin increasing fun in your life based on where you are.

Are you saying...“I don’t have an issue with having fun”?

Answer honestly. Some valuable questions to ask yourself here may be:

  • Have I ever tried to have more fun in the past?
  • How do I recognize that I have a problem with having fun?
  • What would have to happen for me to think that not having fun is an issue?

Feel free to journal your answers.Make observations of your current behaviors. Keep a list of observations you make of your daily habits for a week. At the end of the week, simply assess the risk of your current behaviors in relation to having more fun.

Are you saying...“I may want to have more fun. I may not”?

Make a list of pros and cons.

  • What do I have to gain if I make more time for fun? What do I have to lose?

Fun is important because...Why do i want to have more fun? Is there anything preventing me from changing this? What are some things that could help me make make fun a priority?

Are you saying...“I need to prepare to have more fun”?

Make a list of 25 fun things. If it’s been a while since you have had fun, and making a list of more than a few things may present itself as a difficult task. Try not to complicate the list too much. Keep it simple. Think small. Think big. Think outside of the box.Arm your toolbox with new tools.Make a list of three new, small things you are willing to gather, try or do that’ll help you be the fun person in your life. Then, write down a weekly or monthly goal to follow through. This could be collecting donations for a fun hobby, gathering some new tools for a fun project or attending a class to learn more about something fun that interests you. You are preparing yourself to be the fun you wish to see in your world.

Are you saying...“I will have some fun”?

Be spontaneous.Fun doesn’t always require spontaneity, but it rarely hurts. Take a glimpse over your list of fun things to do, and circle one that you can do right away and just jump.Set a doing goal.“I will grab Sunday brunch with friends.” "I will craft my project by the end of the week.” "I will go to three dance classes this month.” Whatever fun you are hoping to have more of, just go out and do it! After all, you know you have nothing to lose and all the more to gain.

Are you saying…” I am having fun all the time.”
