Seven Tips from a Health-Conscious Person: Overall Wellbeing

If you read my nutrition and exercise tips, then you may have noticed a trend of advice, and there is no exception here. Like the previous two blogs, bookmark this page for tips on overall wellbeing from a health-conscious!

1. Variety

The daily grind can make us a little too comfortable at times, which is why it's important to shake it up a bit. Drive a different way home from work one day, take an impromptu trip to pick some local berries with the kids or plan a special night out on the town for you and your loved one. Life is simply meant to be lived, so live it.

2. Journal

Putting words on paper and making my inner thoughts tangible has been a way for me to filter out the unwanted fluff of my life and hold onto what really matters. So grab a pen and paper or pickup your laptop, and just let it flow.

3. Just Breathe

I hear this a lot, but for whatever reason, meditation is one of the hardest things to make time for. Taking a moment to meditate, set an intention, focus on the positive and just breathe allows me a moment to press pause and reflect on life. Frankly, we all need a moment to just breathe!

4. Balance

Being healthy can mean so many things whether it's physical wellbeing, mental health, financial stability, spiritual strength or somewhere in between. The thing I struggle with the most is time with my friends. So to make sure I feel balanced, I ask my friends to let me schedule a time with them in advance. This has been a game changer for me and my feeling of total equilibrium.

5. Free Yourself From Time to Time

When is the last time you felt truly free? Free of judgment, expectation, responsibility, etc. When I am the most free, I am sitting on my patio deck with my coffee mug in one hand and my journal in the other, hanging out with my adventurous man by a campfire or playing with nieces and nephews in the yard. When I let myself live without the chains that weigh me down, I feel totally FREE!

6. Listen More

In silence, there is a lot to learn. I believe we are all stewards of our own lives, and it is up to us to continuously strive to become better versions of ourselves. By listening to those around us, we have so much to learn not only about them, but also about ourselves. So when you catch yourself wanting to let out all the words that can come to your mind, JUST BREATHE and LISTEN.

7. Express Gratitude

The feeling of gratitude does not always come naturally. In fact, most always we lead with the negative in our thoughts and even in our conversation. It is amazing to me what happens when I compliment another person or tell them something positive I have noticed about them. Usually they smile or laugh and thank me for saying such few words that took such little effort to speak. Gratitude can go a long way!
